inserting a wmv file

Having trouble inserting a Media Player movie (.wmv)..... everytime I go to
insert movie...my cmputer freezes as if it is rejecting what I am doing!!!
UGH! (I have Windows XP)

Any help or suggestion is much appreciated!!!
