Inserting A TAB after a FIGURE FIELD?

Fellow Forum Members,
Below is one row from the List of Figure Page Word autogenerates following
my TOC:

Figure 3-20. Mission Type Selection............3-11

Does anyone out there know where in the Styles for my Table of Figures Style
I'm suppose to have the ability to insert a TAB right after the PERIOD that
follows the 3-20. ? Everytime I refresh by hitting F9 the TAB setting I
manually insert dissappears. How can I insert a permanent half inch TAB after
the 3-20. that doesn't go away after replacing the the figure list by hitting
F9? I have looked all over the menus and there is no way I can see that a TAB
setting can be set to follow an autogenerated FIELD. Any help will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since your table of figures is generated by the captions in the body of your
document, you will need to insert the tabs in the actual figure captions. So
locate your Figure 3-20 and insert your tab there. Now when you update your
table of figures, the tab will be replicated.

Dawn,
Thanks for the post. I am following what you advise. I go to the actual
source Figure 3-20. caption in the document (Style = CAPTION), I insert a tab
and it's too much space. Therefore, I try to set a LEFT tab, and hit the TAB
key and the space between the Figure Number and the Figure Title is not
conforming to the LEFT Tab setting I created. If you can try it out on your
end you will see what I mean. I'm getting a strong suspicion that WORD does
not like tabs following Figure Fields.

Modify the Style Caption to have the Tab in the place where you want it. I'm
not having a problem with inserting tabs.
