inserting a picture

once you insert a picture on a slide, is there a way to see the file name
and or location?

Hi,

Not unless you resorted to vba. And it might give you the filename, but to
me, it would be pointless to give you a location unless you had it linked.
The only way it would know the image name is to have it embedded in the
image itself, which can be done, or keep a record of the name and location
when it was first inserted.

Sky,
you can apply an animation to it. In the animation task pane the picture
will show up with its file name in the list. But to find out the location
you have to do a search with Windows Explorer.

OK, Ute. Tell me what I'm doing wrong. PPT2003 here; both embedded and linked
images show up in my animation pane as e.g. Picture1, Picture2, etc. Never by
filename.

I don't know what you're doing wrong. Pictures, which are inserted via
Insert - Picture - From file show up with their name (without the
JPG-ending) in my animation pane ... I'll mail you a screenshot.

While checking this out, I was inserting the MS-supplied Sample.jpg from My
Pictures.

Well ... that's what I thought I was doing. In fact, I was inserting some
copies of it that were left over from some other testing I'd done. Copies
named "Picture1", "Picture2" and so on. Only one thumbnail of the thing
appeared in the dialog box, the name was sitting JUST below the bottom of the
box where I couldn't see it. But by golly, I just *knew* I was clicking
Sample, so when it showed up as Picture1 ... well ... you know.

Monkey see, monkey DOHHH.
