Inserting a paragraph

I have made a large table and now I am informed that I need to add a
paragraph above it. I can't seem to get space above the table. Should I
enter a text box and type within that?

at the very start of the table:
Selection.SplitTable

At the very beginning of the table (top left cell, before any text), press
Enter.
