Inserting a new label in an existing file

WordPerfect allowed me to insert a new label in a file and automatically
moved the following labels to the next label. Can this be done in Word?

Not as easily -as Word creates labels in a different way.
Convert the labels to a data file, add your new label data, sort the list
them merge to a new file. Then instead of maintaining the label file,
maintain the data file and merge to new labels whenever there is a change
