Inserting a .jpg object into an OLE field

I have designed a form for healthcare information. There is a field for a
photo. I have successfully embedded .jpg images into the photo field by
Insert/Object/ and then choosing Create New/ Image Expert Picture and
choosing OK. My computer is a Dell Dimension – I understand that the Image
Expert Suite is Dell software. I also have Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite on
this computer.

I have put a copy of the database on another computer for someone to use.
The .jpg files that I have already inserted show up properly. She apparently
does not have Picture It or Digital Imaging Suite. On her drop down list she
has Bitmap Image as an option but nothing else that allows her to put in a
new .jpg image.

Someone suggested that perhaps she failed to activate the software within
the allotted number of times and that all of the features available in Access
had therefore not been installed. Is this the likely problem or is there
another reason? Is there a way that I can remedy this situation so that there
will be an option to allow her to embed a .jpg object?

When you use OLE (Object Linking and Embedding), you put yourself at the
mercy of whatever the user has registered to handle the image file type.
Apparently, whatever this user has registered will only display (that could
be Internet Explorer, perhaps). In a Windows Explorer Window, use the File
Types tab to verify what, if anything, is registered for .jpg, and work from
that information.

Thank you so much for responding. Today is a holiday but I will try to get
over to the other computer sometime this week and try out what you suggested.
I looked on mine in the Windows Explorer File Types and find that my .jpg
extension is linked to Image Expert Pictures. I see how it is possible to
choose options for .jpg files so at least I am miles ahead now that I know
where to look.

Great. Best of luck with your project. There are some example databases for
imaging at http://accdevel.tripod.com -- they might be of some help. At
least, they describe some alternatives to OLE Objects and Bound OLE Frames.

Hi, Larry.

I do have some questions. You spoke about not using OLE objects. The reason
that I had tried to embed the photo was to make sure that 1) it would be
looking out at me and not just be a link or icon and 2) I wanted to avoid it
being a linked file because it sometimes happens that we have to move a
database and if we did then all of the links go out the window with the
change of paths.

I went into Windows Explorer and found the following:

JPE JPEG Image
JPG JPEG Image
JPEG JPEG Image

but JPEG Image does not show up in the list of Object Types when I go to
Insert/Object on the form menu (having solected the OLE field). I get:
