"Insert the correct CD-ROM"

Several games will not run, they all install fine and fully but when I go to
play them a dialog box pops up saying to "Insert the correct CD-ROM..." there
is no error number. If I go into "My Computer" the game info/icon is
registering in the view but will not load the game for play. This is a XP
SP2 system that is brand new trying to run on a samsung burner that is only 6
months old. There is no compatibility issues according to XP compatibility
wizard. This is extremely frustrating. The EAgames website has this listed
as an error message for one of the games but there is no answer or tip to fix
at this time. I just built this computer last week and am ready to play.
Can anyone help answer this question??

Some copy protection do have issues with some drives. If you list the games
you're having trouble is we can work out what copy-protection software they
use and if they have any updates.

Also some copy protection will prevent the game from running if you've got
CloneCD or similiar software installed on your box and will throw up the
same error. You'd have to uninstall CloneCD etc for it to work.

Paul,
The same error occurs when I use the DVD drive instead of the CD burner.
The games are, so far, EA Harry Potter and The Sims games. I have never
heard of CloneCD the only software installed for burning is the XP original
and Nero 5. This is a clean OEM install on a brand new drive and all the
games are original purchase--no burned copies-- games. The newest is Harry
Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban which was purchased on the day this
started happening. I am still lost. Do you think the Nero software is
causing this??

Nero Image Drive can trip it, I'm not sure what EA use copy protection wise.
Try uninstalling Nero and rebooting and then seeing what happens.

If you're also running with a restricted account this can cause problems and
it's best you're logged on with an account with full admin rights.

I will try getting rid of Nero, but I have never been able to get
administrator rights to a copy of XP Home. I should be able to since I
installed it. I was able to with XP Pro on my other computer. How do I get
Admin access to XP Home?? During the install there was never a dialogue box
asking for an Admin account user as there was with Pro.

Not actually ever installed Home on a machine before, but whatever the
default account is surely has to have admin rights. Check on Control
Panel/Users.

Had to use "Add/Remove Programs" to get rid of Nero, still no difference.

Try the following patch:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0f-c41c-44fe-84ce-1df707d7a2e9&displaylang=en

If this fixes it then there's definitely something going on with your user
rights that will need sorting.

I'm having same problems. Sony CRX320E drive XP SP2. Most
stuff OK but have probs with Op Flashpoint and Myst Uru.
Have this query on the XP/Hardware newsgroup too.

I'm using nothing but XP for drivers / burner etc, so no
blame on third party software please. This appears to be
an XP problem, and it's obviously fairly common. Would be
nice to see Microsoft sort it.......

It is a 3rd party software problem. It's the copy protection on the discs
that cause it, remove the copy protection and it will work. It's not
Microsoft's job to fix other people's software.

Before XP - works. After XP doesn't work. Myst Uru recommends the use of XP
so I fail to see how the software house would issue software that doesn't
work with it's recommended operating system.

It must therefore be a change that Microsoft has made that has caused the
problem. However, I shall take it up with the software houses, in the hope
that perhaps they can help.

Nope,
No go, Paul Smith that link did not do the trick. I think you may be right,
(in reference to the other Pauls's comments )but I will try something over
the next couple of days and get back to this post. I appreciate your time
and effort in this and I am still hopeful to find a solution.

I am having the same problem with Links 2003 Championship Edition, so you
can't blame this on the game manufacturers. I do have Symantec Ghost
running, can this cause the problem? If so, I can live without playing the
game. EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 works fine with Ghost installed.
I see this as a Microsoft issue, that they need to address.

I've gone through this entire long long list and have tried all the suggested
fixes. Funny how all my EA Sports games work but my 1 Microsoft game
doesn't. Maybe folks within the huge Microsoft world need to talk and
develop with each other. It was pretty much a worthless article.

Works fine on my P4 SP2 ATI 9800 pro. Like Chris posted did you install the
update?
