Insert symbol not working

In Word2000 When I click on Symbol under the Insert menu, nothing
happens - the symbol screen doesn't appear. Anybody know how to tackle
this? I have recently had windows xp3 service pack installed.

My best guess would be that you have a macro named InsertSymbol that's
running instead of the built-in Word command. Do you see anything like
that when you look in Tools/Macro/Macros?
