Insert Picture Problem

I am using MS Word 2002 and whenever I insert a picture from my files into an
open word document, there does not appear to be any method to edit the
picture. Also there does not appear to be any way to associate the inserted
image with the file on my computer that I got it from. This is very
troublsome for me as I have to stop everything and do a visual search through
all my files to find the image by sight. There has to be a better way?

Correct - Word is not a graphics editor and images inserted are converted to
Words internal format.
Instead of inserting the image, you could insert a link in the document to
the image, and then to reflect any changes you make to the image you simply
update the link (F9 will do that).
If you insert a link - Alt+F9 will show you the filename and path

Thanks for your input Graham. I am using word to create a book so I have a
combination of text and images on about 500 pages that are untilmately
printed out so your link suggestion won't work in this instance. I also use
Front Page 2003 which has an option where you can double click on the image
and it will open it in the image editor of your choice. I was hoping that MS
Word would have a similar option but I guess not. What I am doing now to
edit an image is to do a print screen, paste it into my image editor, crop
the image, edit it and save it in the book files, then delete the existing
image and replace it with the new one. The next time I create a book, I will
put the images in the book flies first and save myself all this monkeying
around. Thanks again.

I don't see from your account any reason why a linked image will not work.
As far as viewing or printing the document is concerned it will work exactly
the same way as an embedded image, with the added advantages that you can
edit the images externally and have the changes reflected in the document,
and the file size will not be bloated by the embedded graphics so file
handling should be faster.

I see what you are saying Graham and that would work fine if I had initially
linked the images, however, all of the images in the word document are not
currently linked so in order to do that, I need to know where they are
located on my computer so that I can create the link which gets me back to
the hunt and peck method of looking for them.

When I was setting this up, it just never occurred to me that I would not be
able to click on the image in Word and find it's loacation. You can be sure
if I do another such project, that I will take your advice and link the image
to the source.
