Hi

When i make a new task in outlook 2002 and i want to insert an object (e.g.
excel worksheet), then i save and close the task
When i open this task i can not edit this object anymore

what could be wrong?

greetings
Jurgen

Any recent changes on your computer?

Possible causes are the application associated with that object is no longer installed or is not working properly. If it is installed run a Detect and Repair under Help on that application. Still an issue the reintall the application.

Make sure someone else does not have the source file (object) open.

Kind Regards,

Hi

Thanx for your answer

It is not due to recent changes, it did never work on our computers
It is a problem that occurs on many computers and not only with excel but
also with paint etc.
When i try it in a calendar topic or in word i have no problemes with
inserting objects
it only occurs in outlook tasks

greetings
Jurgen

Hi

Could you be more specific
Why does this proble occurs in task and not in calendar

greetings

I don't recall the exact reasoning why it tasks are locked down more than
other objects - it was some convoluted reason why tasks were more risky,
possibly because they could be emailed as task requests. They did it at
least by SP3, possibly sooner. There is no known workaround.

if it is "locked down" as you say, why then is it still among the menu items?

Ask Microsoft - we (MVPs) don't work for them.

because its easier to block the attachment then it is to remove existing
menus. Any time you mess with an existing feature that works (such as the
menus) you risk adding unexpected bugs. Preventing an item from opening is
less likely to add bugs and easier to tweak if there are a lot of complaints
from corporate customers. It can also be tweaked in future versions more
easily.

I believe in outlook 2007 you can control this using group policy (but I
could be wrong). Outlook 2002 is so old and insecure that it was just
blocked.
