Inputting product key after running a repair

Hi,

I have used a Windows XP cd under our license agreement (my job) to repair
my WinXP installation instead of the OEM (Gateway) provided cd . I am now
stuck at the point where I am supposed to input the product key. When I try
ti use the key on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop, I am getting an
"invalid" error when I try to use it.

This is actually a problem whenever we attempt to repair or reinstall using
anything but the Gateway provided cd. The issue with using Gateway provided
cd is that you are not given the option of repairing the installation, you
are only asked if you want to reinstall. Since this would result in data
loss, I used a Windows XP cd under our license agreement to do the repair.

Does anyone know how I can get the installation to accept my product key?

Any assistance you can offer will be appreciated.

Sorry, but the Product key issued by Gateway is
only valid when using the Gateway restore CD.

The Gateway key only works with the Gateway restore media. There is no work
around.
