initialize new disk?

I'm trying to get an external USB2.0 DVDRW to work. It is
installed but the drive is not recognized in Disk
Management. Please see my other 2 posts under same name.

The 'HELP' option gives this advice when you don't see the
drive:

Right-click the disk you want to initialize, and then
click Initialize Disk.
In the Initialize Disk dialog box, select the disk(s) to
initialize.
If you are running Windows XP 64-Bit Edition, you can
select whether to use the master boot record (MBR) or GUID
partition table (GPT) partition style.

The disk is initialized as a basic disk.

I cant get 'initialize' to come up by right clicking on
any icon, let alone the correct one.

anyone help me on this?
thanks

I think that refers to a hard disk and not a dvdrw. If it's USB2.0 do
you have to install drivers and does
your motherboard come equipped with integrated USB2.0? Do you have to
enable it in the Bios?
Does it show up in MyComputer?

I agree, when I'm in Disk Management, it does refer to a
disk drive, which is part of the problem. The DVDRW is
listed as a drive when I highlight C drive-->ACTION-->ALL
TASKS-->PROPERTIES-->HARDWARE. It Lists the C Drive, a USB
DEVICE as a drive (really the DVDRW), and the DVD-CDROM
drive (already installed on computer)

And NO..it does not show up in MY COMPUTER. I think if I
could ever get it to appear, I would be able to use it. I
simply can not figure out how to do it, despite knowing
the associated 'HELP' by heart. I simply can't apply it.

Rt click MyComputer>Select Prop>Hardware>Device Manager>USB Controllers rt
click on all and uninstall. Restart and let WinXp reinstall.
