disk is not initializing

i had a dynamic disk failure, which i described in another post
here[1]. i believe it's just a software problem, because R-Studio (a
data recovery software) was able to access the disk and read some of
the files off it. now i want to reformat the disk as new. so following
the advice i was given on the other thread, i did

diskpart
select disk 1
clean

then in Disk Management, i right-clicked the disk and selected
Initialize Disk, but the disk is still in Unknown/Not Initialized
state. is there anything i need to do to create a volume on the disk
that i can partition?

I'd like to add that SpeedFan reports good S.M.A.R.T parameters from
that disk.

That's only a small part of the story.
Go the the website of the HD's mfg
and download their diagnostic...then run it.
If the drive fails there is no point in using it.

Check the warranty and if covered, get an RMA number
for replacement...
Otherwise *discard it*
