Initial sentence cap - word 2003

I cannot get Word 2003 to capitalize the first word of a sentence when the
prior sentence ends with a numeral.

All else fails, use the Shift key.

It's by design; I can kind of understand the thinking behind it, but I think
it's a feature that causes more problems than it cures..
