Infuriating word delete problem

Word has suddenly decied on its own (honest!) to ask me to
press Y or N when I highlight a word and press delete. I
can't find any adjustment for this but I want it back like
it was - hhglight something then press delete and it's
gone. HELP PLEASE

In Tools > Options > General, clear both options that mention WordPerfect.
