infragistics or componentone?

Hi,

I'm looking for a webcontrol which provide the same capabilities of the
outlook grid.
I have found 2 products, 1 provided by infragistics, the second by
componentone.

There is any other company/product on the market?
anyone as tested these components and can share its experience?

I dont have enough time to done a complete test of each product, so I'm
looking for your feedback and comments.

Thanks.

Jérôme.

I hate to bring bad news - but perhaps my experience will save you time and
frustration: I have spent (wasted) hours and hours trying to get
Infragistics Web controls to work as advertised. They simply do not and in
ways that smack of incomplete development (I believe they were rushed to
market). Perhaps Infragistics would benefit significantly from investing
more in developing their products and less in fancy advertising. Take a look
at their free news groups. Look at the *types of questions* being asked and
the typically unhelpful responses (if one is lucky enough to get *any*
response at all). This alone will provide you with independent verification
of what I am saying. I cannot speak to ComponentOne products. Good Luck!

thanks... I'll take a look on the newsgroup...
first reaction: 6000 posts in the webgrid newsgroup!!!
but here is an advantage: there is activity on this newsgroup...

What type of usage have you try?

Of their Web controls I have the least experience with their Web grid. I
implemented a basic grid and saw that its ViewState was absolutely huge. I
tweaked it a bit to learn that I could not do much to reduce its size. The
simple fact that any page with their grid was absolutely huge (IMHO) was
enough for me to go in another direction. Regarding their treeview control -
they advertise drag and drop capability. Yep - it sure does that. You can
drag and drop a node. But if your node has child nodes - those nodes will
completely disappear forever after the drag/drop operation! I contacted tech
support and they sent me some UNDOCUMENTED and UNSUPPORTED JavaScript that
would recreate child nodes under a dragged parent at the parent's new
location. I spent two days screwing with their JavaScript before I got it to
behave in a reasonably predictable manner. Talk about unprofessional! I
switched to the treeview from ComponentArt - now that's a great company with
*completed* products AND the best technical documentation and samples I've
ever seen. That's another HUGE disappointment I had with Infragistics -
their stuff isn't very well documented at all. You have to hunt through
their object models looking for properties and methods that have a name that
SOUNDS like it might have something to do with the functionality you are
looking for. And another thing!!!! Okay, I'll stop.

<<but here is an advantage: there is activity on this newsgroup...>>

Be careful - look at the type of activity that is going on. The case could
easily be made that SO MUCH activity indicates an incomplete product - or at
least lots of confused and frustrated developers who MUST ask a bunch of
questions. If their documentation was any good, then I suspect that much of
that activity would not exist. Do you want to be one of those confused
developers who has to add several questions to that huge collection of 6000
threads????

I'm allready used the componentarts webcontrols.
The menus and other components works fine, I am satisfied, but I dont have
developped advanced interface with it.

I'm looking for a grid which support easy grouping like Outlook 2003.
And also a grid which consume a small viewstate.
I'm also looking for developping in ASP.NET 2. The final choice is not made
at this time.
