InfoPath on Tablet Thin Clients

Guest

We would like to deploy tablet PC's in a manufacturing environment. We have a
server running Windows Server2003. Can we configure a single application to
run over terminal services on the tablets? If so, what OS should the Tablets
have.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply Vera. At this point I am looking for a more general
overview. Rather than a full blown terminal connection, I'd be interested
wether you could run a single application in terminal server application
mode.

It would also be good to discuss my choice of client OS (Windows CE, Windows
XPe, Windows Tablet edition, Linux, etc.)

Thanks

That's the next step, and is configured on the server.
Once you have an TS client of some sort on the tablet PC and a
connection to the Terminal Server, you can configure the TS (in
Terminal Server Configuration or with a GPO) to start a single
application automatically on connection.

Thanks again for your reply. Can we backup a little? I do not own any clients
yet and am getting organized with the project. I am looking for very general
advice on the best OS configurations, TS versus application mode. Etc.

Thanks

OK, I see. I'm not a tablet PC specialist at all, but I guess that
one of your starting points should be here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx

I'm not sure what you mean with "TS versus application mode"?
If you plan to deploy an application to your mobile device users,
then you have to install Terminal Services on your server (that's
probably what you call "application mode"). You would also need to
install a TS Licensing Server, and buy and install TS Client Access
Licenses.

I can't give you much advive on the OS on the clients. You have to
make sure that there exists an rdp client for them.
Check here for downloadable client software:

You migth want to start a new thread in the main
microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services newsgroup
This one is going extinct, and you'll get much more advice there.
