Inetpub

Does anyone know where the subdirectory inetpub comes from? I would like to
remove it but I can't and I don't know which program placed it on my
harddrive.

I suspect Quicken did it.

Thanks

It comes with the installation of the IIS web server.

Your suspicion is incorrect. That is an IIS-specific folder. I don't
suggest you remove it if you plan on running IIS (i.e. hosting any sites) on
that machine.

So I need to remove the IIS to remove this directory? Is that correct?

Thanks for the information.

Not necessarily. You can configure IIS to use some other directory, it's
just that it uses inetpub by default. If you delete the inetpub directory
without either reconfiguring or removing IIS, then IIS will longer function
properly.

Thank you for your help. Since I do not need that service, I removed it and
was able to delete the dubdirectory.

Can you help me with another problem.

When I login or logout, now there is text at the top of the box telling me
what I am doing. That did not happen before I played with Accessibility and
Utility Manager (Window key + U). I have tried going to accessibility but I
can not find a flag to stop it or turn off the text message at the top of the
login and logout box.

Thanks and thanks for the other suggestions.

I did not need IIS, so I removed the program using Add/Remove Windows
Components. When I did this I was able to delete the subdirectory Inetpub.

But it is back after rebooting, Inetpub. What other program is using this.
What other service do I need to remove to be able to remove this. I don't
like things appearing that I don't want or necessarily need.

Also explain how this works because I am having trouble with the wording
that MS uses, "To add or remove a componant, click the checkbox." What does
that mean.
Do they mean, "Componants will be added if they are checked and removed if
they are not checked."

Thanks for you assistance.
