OK, there seems to be a problem with Outlook 2007 and outlook.pst files from
2002.

Just now I clicked on the Search Inbox's dropdown arrow while in the Inbox
mode. The number of 'items remaining' to be indexed under Indexing Status
increases when I delete an e-mail message from the Inbox. Can this be
correct? It would appear that the less items I have in the Inbox, the more
items that need to be indexed. That 'don't' sound right.

If this is a known problem with Outlook 2007, I'd like to hear back from the
MS folks.

I'll pass on something I came across after searching this using google -
click on Tools \ Options \ Search and deselect everything.

At least now I am getting search results. I am still wondering outloud what
the purpose of beta testing is. Outlook 2007 should have less problems than
2002.
