Indexing Emergency

J

Jim Speiser

I am indexing my father's new book. Unfortunately, I indexed one version of
it, and then he heavily updated his version of it, which does not contain my
indexing fields. (I tried to make sure he used the right version, but
somehow it got screwed up).

Question: Is there a way to combine documents, using his changes but
PRESERVING MY INDEXING MARKS? Otherwise, I've got a complete do-over on my
hands.

Even if the answer is "Buddy, you're screwed," I would appreciate hearing
such before I wait too long to get started.

You might see whether Tools | Compare and Merge Documents would do you any
good.

Seems like using the version with the indexing as the "Old" version
and the edited version as the "New" one would simply transfer all the
editing from the new one to the old one. Though if you indexed "horse"
and the word it was attached to was changed to "stallion," you'd still
get the entry "horse" in the index.
