Index with hyperlinks?

How can I set up the Index so it has hyperlinks as per the Table of Contents?
In the Table of Contents MSWord automatically creates links pointing to the
relevant pages. Is there an easy way to do the same for the Index field? This
would be very useful for online users.
 
There is no built-in or easy way to do this, though it has often been
requested.
