Index Service Not Working in Vista 32

Vista 32 on a notebook - been running fine for a couple of months - this
week I found that search in OUtlook 2007 wasnt working then I discovered
that if I try normal search in Vista it says search may be slow because
index is not running - click to turn it on. Click to turn it on doesnt do
anything - also found that the Windows Search service is stopped and will
not re-start manually. HAve re-booted of course....

Search is one of the best things in VIsta - any ideas how I get it working
again please?

Hi Mark

thanks for the prompt reply. I ran the sfc function the article mentions but
it came back saying everything was ok. Index still not working though....

I've had this same problem for months now. It fails to start with some error
code that means nothing and a string saying path not found but never mentions
the path its looking for.

I found a few fixes on the net but none worked for me. Service still stopped
and still can't restart. My next step is to uninstall Virus scanner/Firewall
crap (I think it may have something to do with it) if that doesn't work I'm
doing a repair type reinstall.
