I all of a sudden have these *.idx files on my d drive. They are only 32
bytes in size but there are hundreds of them. Can any one tell me what
they are and how they came to be on my d drive. Thanks, Ray Holt

not sure,
but you can turn off your indexing
service via admin tools then reboot
into safe mode.

in safe mode, mass delete those files.

reboot into normal mode and check up
on that location for further creations.

if they still are being creatd it could
be malware on your system.

you can monitor your processes to see
which one appears to be active, which
in turn may be the one creating those files.

task manager helps with this but it is basic

you can download a good one from microsoft.com
do a search for process explorer and install it.
set the settings to stay on top and run you pc
as your normally would - keeping that folder
with the renegade files open as well.

between monitoring that folder and those
files with the help of process explorer, you
will be able to pin point the cause and eliminate
it.

fyi - some pc's run faster and some will run
a bit slower because of the indexing service.
so don't be alarm if it is a bit slower or faster
as a rsult of cycling this service. it can be
uncycled later....

let us know....
