Eric,
I have not found one definitive work or monolog or what have you
on Index.dat files. I have a lot of different stuff but have not combined
them into any coherent form. Deleting them does no harm. They just
get recreated at reboot and start filling up with useless stuff again.
This is what IE normally does. Creates and fills up Index.dat files.
A newly created one starts as 16 or 32 KB and grows.
C:\DOCUME~1\WESLEY~1.VOG\LOCALS~1\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\index.dat 128 KB {This one will die when I reboot}
C:\DOCUME~1\WESLEY~1.VOG\LOCALS~1\History\History.IE5\index.dat 96KB
C:\DOCUME~1\WESLEY~1.VOG\LOCALS~1\History\History.IE5\MSHist0120040609200406
10\index.dat 48KB
