indent not working for pasted items

I have pasted some text from a power point presentation and now I cannot use
the indent or tab buttons on any of my word document. Can anyone advise?

Which version of Office are you using? When you click in the text you pasted,
what style is being used? Do you get a different/better result if you use
Edit/Paste Special and paste as "plain text"?
