Increment control number at print time

I have a simple single page document containing a pre-printed unique control
number. I would like to stop purchasing this from a printer and do it
myself. I can easily create the basic form in Word but is there a way to
print the unique control number on each copy as it prints? I would also like
to save the last control number printed to be used as the starting number the
next time. I am using Word 2003.
