Yes. I use Partition Magic. There is also Paragon Partition Manager, and
Acronis Disk Director, and probably some freeware too although for a
critical task like this I stick with known items.

I merged two empty partitions within windows.. but other than that it
would have to be using third party software.

Buy a disk manager. As already suggested, either PartitionMagic or
Partition Manager. I have PartitionMagic 4 and 8, and Partition Manager
2005. I think Partition Manager works better, it is able to do some
disk work on the reboot within Windows that PartitionMagic seems unable
to do. Anyway, once you buy a disk manager, there is no looking back.
You will be very happy you did.

Good luck.

Not natively, and keep your data; that I'm aware of.

I don't agree with that statement because of an omission: There is no
looking back and no GOING back. I don't like that. I run dual RAID 1
arrays and can't be stuck with something that can't be undone, or
fixed with standard protocols.

I would suggest partitioning the drive and do a new Windows build to
go with it.

Your HDD's manufacturer might make software that can grow your partitions.
Check with them.

What are "standard protocols" in this context? Something you can do
only with a Microsoft written utility?

What do you mean by "there is no going back"? That makes no sense. I
get the impression you don't really know what you're talking about.
Perhaps you're fishing for answers.

I have been using disk managers for years. A disk manager gives you
the ability to use your hard disk(s) like never before. A disk
manager is almost as useful as the operating system itself.
I would suggest partitioning the drive and do a new Windows build
to go with it.

That is a waste of time and effort if all you want to do his
increase the size of a partition.

PS

Always keep copies of important files on another hard disk or on
removable media. That is a golden rule whether you are using power
tools or not.

Out of curiosity, since I am presently running RAID 0+1 and am going
to simplify to only RAID 1, could you explain the concept of double
raid 1which is new to me?

If your question had been a bit more specific and
detail-laden, so would've the reply.

.. . .

Rightio...maybe this person was wanting some specifics and details on how to
go about increasing partition sizes? Rather than a completely empty and
incomprehensibly rude response...

Sure, and we'd have to know specifically what OP was trying
to do, exactly, to give specifcs on doing it.

What was rude was expecting everyone to write some kind of
essay about "every possible thing known to man" about
resizing partitions and WinXp instead of only the relevant
information.

OK, should have included a bit more. However, the question has been answer
with the info provided.

Was wondering if there was a way in Win XP to increase partition size
without, formatting, or second party software. Seems I'll go out and buy
one of the packages someone suggested.

Thanks

I thought the question was straightforward, as stated in the subject
line. But whatever.

Manipulating partition sizes is something I do frequently and easily.
Long gone are the days of reformatting my disk and using FDISK,
trying to guess in advance how many and what size partitions I might
need later. The data partitions get resized/moved/deleted/added, but
only the Windows partition gets reformatted. Actually, I keep copies
of the Windows partition (an advanced application of a disk manager),
so the Windows partition just gets deleted and then replaced when
things go wrong. Doing the copy is faster than reformatting the
partition using FDISK. It's like the difference between night and
day. If you push your computer beyond ordinary use, you can save a
great deal of time and effort by using a disk manager. Remember to
always keep a copy of any important files, especially when learning
how to use a power tool.
