Increasing Buffer HP4670

T

Terry Smythe

I'm scanning a large number of turn-of-the-century
documents/pamphlets/catalogs, etc, all long since out of copyright
protection. I'm using an HP4670 scanner, well suited for my purpose. See:

At resolution of 300, scan is reasonably swift. At a resolution of 350 or
higher, scan is painfully slow as its buffer fills up, scan head reverses a
bit and restarts, then continues until buffer is once again full.

Is there a way to change buffer settings to acommodate higher resolution
settings? I'm running WinXP/Home/SP2 with 3 gigs of memory, scanning
into ABBYY OCR Fine Reader 8.

Thoughts of others?

You might consider getting a used HP 5470C on E-Bay. I think it's a
faster scanner, and you can get them cheap (as little as $10).

I'd recommend that you use 300 dpi or 600 dpi, and nothing in between.
There is no doubt that with 600dpi, the scanning is going to slow down a
LOT.
