Incorrectly recognizing Plextor CD-RW as CD-R

Hi all,

For some reason, Vista is recognizing my SCSI Plextor 40/12/40S CD-RW
drive as a "PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W4012S". So, I can use it as a CD-R in Vista
and Media Player, but not as a CD-RW (i.e. I can't erase discs or use
rewritable discs). It definitely does have CD-RW capabilities because I
can use it as such in Nero, and have used it in XP to do the same.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,
Matt.

There aren't any drivers... it's a drive attached to an SCSI controller,
so the SCSI controller driver is all I need.

There may not be drivers for the Plextor but have you checked for their
firmware updates -- those affect recognition of media.

They are up to version 1.04 now and I see:

Version 1.03 Download (File Size: 467KB) Date posted: July 18, 2003

Added support for newer CD-R/RW media.

The firmware updates are cumulative.

If you are scsi connected (I have a fair amount on board) check out
this Adaptec website if you are using Adaptec controllers and see if
your card is supported in VISTA:

Sorry about the URL -- if it does not work when you click on it, try
clicking on the last line and if that does not work go to the Adaptec
website / Support / Scsi software /

and click on the link at << See all Knowledgebase articles Windows ASPI
