Incorrect Filenames

I have at least 40+ pictures stored under my pictures file and today i
noticed that all the filenames are on the wrong pictures. When i click on a
thumbnail, it does not enlarge that photo, rather it opens the file that
corresponds with the name underneath it (not the same file as the picture
shows). Its pretty weird. I have a picutre of my dog, and underneath it will
say someting like, my aunt's wedding. Does anyone know what the problem could
be? i opened and closed the file to see if it was just temporary but it keeps
happening.

I have not personally experienced the
issue you report but I have seen reports
that the following steps may correct it..

Right click your desktop and from the
menu...choose...New / Folder...

Copy all the files in the current folder and
paste them into the New Folder.

Hi Jackie em

I have got the same problem and was wondering if the advice you received
fixed it?

Advice from John Inzer should work.
Another way of fixing this is to delete the thumbs.db file in the folder.
This file is a hidden file. So you need to go to Tools and Folder options
and scroll to select "show hidden files". Then open the folder, delete this
file, close the folder and open the folder. XP will make a new thumbs.db
file when you open the folder and this should fix the problem.

Hi

Thanks for that. I did try that once before but I couldn't find any
thumbs.db files in the folders.....is there any possiblity it isn't there, or
am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks

Thumbs.db files are hidden...
you have to open a folder and go to...
Tools / Folder Options / View tab...
Tick..."Show hidden files and folders" /
Apply / OK.

Now you should be able to find the
thumbs.db files.

If you still do not see the Thumbs.db
files...maybe..."Do not cache thumbnails"
is checked in Folder Options...
then there are no Thumbs.db files.

Hi John

Thanks for that. I did try the "show hidden files" once before and as far as
I could see the thumbs.db still wasn't there. I will double check the "do not
cache thumbnails" option isn't ticked when I get home this eve, but I think I
did check that too last time and I still couldn't see it!

I will keep you posted!

Thanks again

Okay...but I think my original suggestion
of copying the files to a new folder might
be the best solution.

It has to be there.
Open the folder.
Click on Tools on your top bar.
Click on the View tab.
Scroll down and select "Show hidden files and folders".
Close the folder. Open the folder. The thumbs.db file will be there.
Click on it to select it (highlight in blue).
Hold the Shift key down and press the Delete key.
Close the folder. Open the folder. XP will make a new thumbs.db file and
this should fix your problem.
Then go back and remove the show hidden files option.

Hi John

Just wanted to say thanks and let you know I managed to fix the problem by
copying to another new folder as you recommended!

So thanks again
