Incorrect CD Contents Are Displayed in Windows Explorer

I've googled this and tried many things, but still have the problem of CD's
not being refreshed in windows explorer. Tried the "fix autoplay " patch
also.
F5 will not refresh the view on the left side (label) or right side
(contents), nor will ejecting the CD unless a different drive is selected
while the CD is ejected.
WinXP pro SP2, celeron 2.4ghz.
Any new thoughts on this?

Possibly a driver or hardware fault (in or outside the CD drive). Check the
cable to the CD drive.
It seems that whatever detects a CD change is not working.
