CD in Explorer - shows previous CD - will not refresh

This is an old problem and I have found a ton of posts on it in
Google. But not one answer that works for anyone. They are told to
go to the MS knowledge sites (there are two) about "incorrect contents
shown", and "CD displayed files not refreshing" - but the fix listed
is to install SP1, and users report back that it simply does not work.

Others have said you need to enable AutoPlay, or eject the CD, refresh
Explorer, reinserts CD, and refresh again, etc. etc

None of these work. So I assume this post is futile, but I want to
take one last stab at it because it has frustrated me for 3 years.
Anyone have a fix that works ?? Anyone that "used to have this
problem" found a fix ?? TIA

I had the same problem a few years ago. I disconnected the power plug to the
CD player for a couple of hours. I then shut down and reconnected. It worked
fine after that.

I guess some information was being held in the silicon used in the control
board on the CD player. During reboot, or a normal shutdown, it wasn't being
flushed.

Anyway, a complete "power off" did the trick!

May work for you. If not, it may be time for a new CD unit.

It may be a fouled up autoplay setting, so that the autoinsert
notification is being lost. Microsoft people have written an unofficial
fix up tool for Autoplay. Without great confidence, I suggest you try
it - it is not on a MSoft site, but can be downloaded from
