inbox shows i have email, but can't view it

my inbox folder shows that i have new messages, but when i click on it,
nothing appears in the window to the right of the folders. I am not sure
what setting i have selected or how to correct the problem.

maybe it is in an Inbox subfolder ?
expand the Inbox....
