Can't change view settings - Outlook 07

My Inbox folder appearance suddenly changed. It now displays columns such as
'Catogories' and 'Reminder Bell' which I am not using. Removing these
columns
by any of the available means is not permanent. When I come back to the
Inbox
folder or just restart Outlook the removed folders are back again. Other
view
setting changes in the Inbox folder such as removing the 'Group' display
don't stick either.
All other folders such as 'Sent Items' and subfolders under Inbox can be
changed at will and as always. ONLY the inbox folder appears to be locked.
I've done a repair installation of Office 2007 but that didn't take care of
it.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks, sounded promising BUT didn't work. I've tried both methods.
The Inbox folder still can't be customized and appears to be locked. An
changes that I make are undone when I come back to the Infolder. All other
folders can be customized without problems.
