Judging from the number of posts on this topic, Microsoft needs to give
better directions or quit suggesting that people use it. I received the
message that told me my inbox was garbled and I needed to run the repair
tool. After much effort I found what I think is close to the correct address
to insert into the Repair Tool for scanning: C:\Documents and
Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft Outlook\*.pst. This
address still doesn't work and I have plugged in variations such as
"mail.pst" and "inbox.pst." I am really frustated after several hours. Can
anyone help?

Open My Computer and navigate down to that directory once you've turned on
the display of hidden folders since part of path is hidden.

Replace "Owner" with your profile name. You may have to go look at the
C:\Documents and Settings folder to see what the exact name is.

I have found the answer to my question. The file which I need to scan is
"Outlook.pst," so the last part of the address will be as follows:
....\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst.
