inbox problems

I recently upgraded from Outlook 2002 to 2007. All settings were imported
including the outlook.pst file. Now I repeatedly receive a message saying
that errors have been detected in the .pst file. I have used the inbox repair
tool on multiple occasions. When I come to repair the inbox the main issue
appears to be lost files - and I have lost a number of recent emails. Each
time the repair is completed, Outlook restarts satisfactorily, only for the
problem to re emerge the next day. Office diagnostics detects no problems in
Outlook itself.

What is the next step - short of abandoning Outlook to handle my emails?

What is the size of your pst-file?
You're better of creating a new pst-file, since Outlook 2007 will create a
pst-file in a new and better format than Outlook 2002.

To do this;
-Create a new pst-file; File-> New-> Outlook Data File...
-Set it as the default delivery location; File-> Data File Management...
-Select newly created pst-file
-Press the Set as Default button
-Restart Outlook

After this you can decide to move your old mail, contacts, etc... to the
newly created folderset.

Thanks for the suggestion.
The pst file is about 80Mb. Since posting I am no longer able to open my
existing pst file. Can I still retrieve emails and contacts from this file?

Yes
Scanpst.exe says file is repaired but there is still a problem. I can open
some subfolders but for others it says: "cannot display information. There is
either a problem connecting to the server or an error occurred. Try
restarting Outlook again." A separate window says "the messaging interface
has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart outlook." The
affected subfolders contain the bulk of my saved emails.

I have restarted Outlook but the problem is still present.

I have created a new default pst folder which is working fine and I am able
to send/receive emails.

It could be that the pst-file is damaged beyond repair. If you have a backup
I suggest you restore from there.
It could also be that the view of the folder is damaged. Try resetting the
view on the folder by selecting it and then choose;

View-> Current View-> Custom...-> Reset Current View

Thanks

I have now been able to open the subfolders and transferred the contents to
the new pst file. A few recent emails have disappeared. Hopefully all is now
sorted.
