INBOX ERROR - Inbox messages dissapeared.

a user's inbox has dissapeared. there is nothing on our
EXCHANGE server and the items have not been
archived,deleted or deleted from the archives.
All sub folders still remain containing e-mails to
current date. Its just
the inbox messages that have dissapeared.

PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP??
 
Did the user add a Personal Folders file and set this as the default
delivery location?

Did the user accidentally connect to the Exchange server via POP3 and pop
their messages off somewhere? (I've had users connect from home and pop
their messages off using an internet mail client like Outlook Express. Next
time they come to work, they swear that the server ate their messages.)

FWIW, you might want to try the DumpsterAlwaysOn registry switch to see if
you can see anything left in the deleted item retention for the folder.
Might be able to pull a bunch of it back w/out resorting to a restore.
