I m attempting to reload the XP OS on my computer but the loaded version of
XP tells me that the current version is newer than the installation (Which I
am aware) and will not allow me to do so. Is there a way around this; such
as removing the servicepack 2 instatllation?

Either clean install, thereby losing everything, or create a slipstreamed
winxp cd containing latest sp.
I've used Autostreamer, but there are others

Answer - Yes - If you installed SP2 there should be an opportunity via
control panel to remove it - however best solution is recommended by "DL".

This means that your installed OS is at a higher service pack level
than is the WinXP Pro CD you're using. You'll either need to uninstall
SP2 (Control Panel, Add/Remove programs) before attempting the upgrade,
or try slipstreaming SP2 into older WinXP installation.

If you're trying to do a clean reinstallation, you're doing it wrong. What
you already have installed doesn't matter when you do a clean
reinstallation.

Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if necessary to
accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean installation (delete the
existing partition by pressing "D" when prompted, then create a new one).

You can find detailed instructions here:
