Earlier today I noticed that whenever I tried to access
the Google homepage IE kept taking me to another website,
apparently the homepage for "maximumsearch.net." I have
run several virus scans and have come up with nothing. I
also downloaded a program (SpyHunter) to do a scan for
SpyWare. A preliminary scan showed that there were a
number of suspected files which should be removed.
However, when I attempted to download the full version of
this program I kept getting error messages. It seems
that something, perhaps a spyware program has overwritten
the website address for the Google homepage and disabled
multiple downloads for the anti-spyware application. I
also tried to block access to this "maximumsearch.net"
but I find that every website but "maximumsearch.net" is
blocked. I have tried to
contact "(e-mail address removed)" but have yet to
receive a reply. Any advice on how to fix this situation
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
