Inability to change right margin/orientation

Good afternoon -

I've recently started running into the following message
when I try to change my right margin or change page
orientation (portrait to landscape and vice versa)in Word
XP: "Increasing right margin causes last column to
become too narrow in some sections having unevenly spaced
columns." Clicking "okay" just brings me back to page set
up; clicking "cancel" cancels the action and I can't get
past this window.

I'm not working in a table, this is a new document where
I've tried to change the right margin - it shows in page
set up that all margins are .9; however in the actual
document it appears more that the right margin is about
1.25 and I can't change it.

I've uninstalled word, posted all of the updates to it;
upgraded my acrobat (a friend thought there was an
incompatibility with Acrobat 4, so upgraded to 5 and
installed patches.)

Has anyone run into this? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for ANY input.

Hi Coua,

Sounds more like newspaper type columns that the message is
referring to? Have you used Format/Columns in the document?

It's possible your Normal.dot template has been damaged. If
you rename that to NormalOld.dot, start up Word, then try in
a new document do you still have problems?

Cindy,

Thanks for the tip - the message was coming up in new
documents with absolutely no formatting. I tried
renaming the normal.dot file and it appears to be working
fine now.

Thanks! I've struggled with this now for over a week.
