Inability to access Documents and Settings

Windows crashed...I attempted to fix it by upgrading xp,
but "setup [could not] set the required windows xp
configuration info".

So, my Documents and Settings from the previous install
are unavailable. I have the admin password for that
install, any ideas on how I can retrieve my info?
