In Spanish how do you put the ~ on top of n for example; nino

In English it is called a tilde. To create a character with it, use hold
down the Crtl key and the press the key with that symbol on it and then
press the n. Alternatively, hold down the Alt key and then type 0241 on the
numeric keypad.

You call it a tilde, and you can produce ñ by typing Ctrl+~, n and Ñ by
typing Ctrl+~, N. See also

That's what the help files say to do to, so I know you've got it right. But
for some reason it doesn't work on my computer. I get nothing when I press
CNTRL+~+n.
However, I do get Ñ if I press CNTRL+Shift+~+n. I tried reseting my
keyboard commands, but even though it says use CNTRL+~+n to get a lowercase n
it's not working. Any thoughts?
 
Note that Ctrl+~ = Ctrl+Shift+`. You must shift to get the tilde character;
whether you shift the n or not determines whether you get ñ or Ñ.
