In powerpoint 2007 can I have default black and no fill?

Hi,

Every time I select a shape, I get a blue outline and a filling. Can I
arrange for every shape to be black as default and have no fill? I have not
been able to find this setting.

Try this, format a shape the way you want it, right-click it, choose set
default shape (don't know if the wording is right but something to that
effect). You can do this not only for shapes but also separately for lines
and textboxes.
