In MicoSoft Word why do my pictures open in text form?

I'm a new user of MicoSoft Word (computers in general) I was inserting a
picture in my document and everything was fine, I saved my doc. and when I
came back to work on it later every picture I tried to put in it came up in
text form (codes). I was playing around with my toolbar to see what
everything did and I don't know what I hit, but now I can't insert pictures
(my pictures)(not clip art) cause everything come in text form. I even tried
the picture I had already put in again and it came up in text form......ANY
IDEAS..Help Please.....Thank You for any information
 
Press Alt+F9 to toggle the display from field codes (what you're seeing) to
field results.
