In Game/Monitor resolution???

If the video resolution can be set in the gaming program (example: set at
800x600) and the LCD monitor resolution is set at 1280x1024, at what
resolution does the game play? The game resolution or the monitor resolution.

If the game can only be played at 800 x 600, should I reset the monitor to
800x600 before playing the game?

The reason I'm asking is that if I try to set the game at anything more then
800x600 I start to get jerky movement because of the LCD monitor.

Thank you.

PS: Any information or links on LCD monitors and gaming will be appreciated

Hi Mackenrick,

Typically speaking, your ingame video settings determine the resolution
that the game will be played at. Normally, it's best to have the ingame
resolution match the desktop resolution, but that's not always possible.

Thanks Jimmy,
One more question. Will it help my game run a little smoother if I change
the monitor resolution to match the in game resolution before I play the
game? I have a monitor display setting in my systems tray so it is fairly
easy to switch back and forth.

The reason I'm asking is that the video card I have (Radeon 8500) is about
at it's limit trying to run this game (MechWarrior Mercs.) on this LCD
monitor. (Note: It ran great when I was using a CRT monitor).

Thanks for the help. Mac

Hi Mackenrick,

What I recommend you do is install a utility called Fraps.
You can download it from safe sites like downloads.com

This utility sits in your system tray and will show you the
FPS (Frames Per Second) performance you're getting in
the game. You can then compare the performance using
different resolution settings to find your ideal / sweet spot.
