In Access, why does my counter never increase?

I have added about 30 records to my access db and the counter at the bottom
never goes up? Just today it started at 1430 as usual and after adding 4 new
entries, that I verified are in the db, the counter still reads 1430?
 
Do you have blank entries in your database? How did you create the
table, by importing from excel? I have had this issue when importing
from another application.
