in 2007, issues with 'delay sending' rule

Recently upgraded to 07, found out how to set the option to have my 'sent'
messages held in the outbox. I set it for 10 minutes. If, however, I want
to close Outlook before that 10 minutes is up, I can't figure out how to get
it sent. Clicking Send/Receive does nothing. Opening the email and clicking
'Send' only resens the delay for another 10 mintues. I end up having to go
into the email, click on the Options button in the email, uncheck the box
that shows the delay, plus go into the rules and turn off the rule, then send
the damn thing. 2003 never used to make me go thru all that. What is up
with this?????

Also, can't figure out how to get Outlook 07 to check my mail automatically
when it first opens. I don't ever remember even having to set this as an
option in 2003, it just happened (I think). Anyway, I have looked everywhere
for this option and can't find it.

Don't know the answer to the delay issue, but to force a send/receive on
startup, set Outlook to check for new mail every X minutes. 10 minutes or
longer is recommended, to give the servers plenty of time to reset before you
hit them again.

Thanks, Jocelyn, but I think I have this set, unless you're talking about an
option in another place. What I have set is Tools>Options>Mail
Setup>Send/Receive. . . Under settings for both 'group All Accounts' and
'When Outlook is Offline' I have checked the box 'Schedule an automatic
send/receive every 10 minutes.'

This is also not happening. I must ALWAYS click Send/Receive on the main
mail toolbar to get my mail.

Is the setting you're talking about somewhere else? If so, please include
instructions on how to get there.

No, there is no other place -- that would be it. Are you using the same
profile with Outlook 2007 that you used in the version you upgraded from?
This seems to cause problems for some people. You can try the steps listed
at http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/known_issues.htm#gen (under
"Outlook 2007 is slow") -- delete some files while Outlook is closed, and if
that doesn't help, create a new profile. Instructions for that can be found
at http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm.
