Importing Video

J

Jonathan Wood

I've just started playing with Windows Movie Maker 2.1 running on Windows
XP.

I tried importing movies produced by my Kodak digital camera but it produces
MOV files, which are apparently not supported by Windows Movie Maker.

That's a bummer so I thought I'd try importing some AVI files. When I do, it
grinds away for several seconds but then reports:

"The file E:\filename.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to
play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried
to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker,
and then try to import the file again."

The only information I could find about codecs was that they get downloaded
automatically. (Yes, I tried closing and restarting Windows Movie Maker.)

Am I out of luck importing my video files into the program?

Thanks for any tips.

Jonathan
