Importing video

No matter what I do, when I import a video, it always creates a new
collection, whereas importing audio, pictures etc always gets imported into
the selected collection. How do I get a video to import to the selected
collection and eliminate all these new collections being created with every
video I import?
Thanks

And some, such as me, don't. :)
But I would if it were a toggleable (is that a word?) option.

You really prefer a hundred separate collections that you are then going to put into one move over a
single collection with a hundred clips in it?

I cannot imagine why separate automatic collections would be useful. Under what conditions do you
want a separate collection for each video file being imported when dragging and dropping multiple
video files?

The way I think it was intended to work is that after you import your video
file and it stores it in a separate collection folder. You can then run the
create collections wizard to break it up into clips based on
scenes/pause/record break points. These shorter clips of the video file are
then in the folder rather than the clip the entire video file.

I can see the logic in this but there are simply times when a person would
like to do this differently if they have the clips saved as individual
files. Which sometimes I like to do as well. Unfortunately the software
simply does not currently support that method to my knowledge.

If your world is flat, be careful not to step over the edge.

My usual is to capture using Movie Maker, not other apps...

..... the auto clip generation feature results in sometimes hundreds of clips
from a one hour tape/file... it would be a pain if they were mixed with
clips from other sources in a collection I happened to be sitting on when I
started the capture process..

I agree with the need if you capture with other apps such WinDV and opt to
generate individual files based on timecode breaks. It's then a pain to
import them all into Movie Maker and have to move them together into a
single collection.

As I use Movie Maker most, the 'feature' prevents more pain for me than it
gives....

Thanks for everyone's comments.

I have only been using Moviemaker for about a month, but have done a lot of
short vidios made with many clips. I see no reason to not imprt a video into
the collecton you ar working in. I think this should be the default, not the
way it is. But, maybe as a work on large videos, I might see the need.
Right now, it appears to be a big pain in the a_s.

Thanks again for letting me know this is the way ot is suppose to work and I
wa snot doing somethign wrong.
