Importing video clips without splitting

Good Morning All,

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to import video clips without them
splitting into segements? I just imported 3 of them and the 2 longer one's
remained as one clip and the shorter one split into 5 sections. I perfer to
do the splitting myself. Also would like to know why the longer one's stayed
in one clip and the shorter one split.

When you click on import video, the box opens up and at the bottom left
there is a check box for "create clips for video files". Make sure it is
unchecked.
If video is recorded in one long go, then it is less lkely to be split even
if this box is checked.

You can import the file without creating clips
by clearing the "Create clips for video files"
box.

Then you can drag the movie to the timeline
and split it anywhere you like.

Maybe something in the following
tutorial will work for you:

"Splitting A Clip In MM2.1"

Drag the video/audio clip to the
Timeline.

Play the video/audio by clicking the
"Play" button under the view screen.

You will see the Playback Indicator
(vertical line) advancing across the
timeline.

Click the "Pause" button at the point
where you wish to trim and type...
Ctrl+L or click the "Split" button at the
bottom of the view screen.
(you can also make adjustments by
dragging the Playback Indicator)

Make as many splits as you want and
remove any unwanted clips by right
click / delete.

yes for still pictures used as clips, but no for video clips.

If you want to do it at the capture stage then you need a programme that
allows batch capture, so you tell it to capture 5 minutes at a time and it
will capture the whole tape in 5 minute intervals for you in one go.

This is available in the more upmarket programmes such as adobe premiere
Pro, I'm not sure about the lower end version Premeire elements 3, or Ulead
video studio, but I can find out if you like.

Thanks for the tips and links. Kudos for the efforts.

Intended asking if there was a way to disable the default ticking of the
check box for "Create clips for video files", but seems simply dragging any
file results in avoiding the 'splitting' of a vid when importing.

Apparrently some nuances surrounding the use of importing a file that is
split up.

Initally before 'getting it', I found the split up file to be a nuisance and
was puzzled as to why I was seeing some split and some not.

Forgive my duh-ness and/or unwillingness to drill towrrads the answer, but
what usefulness is it to import a file that is spilt up?

Hi Steven,

Actually if you remove the X from the create clips box when importing it
will stay removed by default.
I do this because I personally do not like the autosplit clips feature.

The reason the program has this feature to begin with is so different scenes
shot in order on the tape can be split automatically since they generally
won't be placed immediately together when working a project.
My issue with it has always been that sometimes it is split correctly and
sometimes it isn't so I prefer to do it myself manually so it will always be
split in the correct spot.
